GLUTEN FREE FESTIVE SEASON TURKEY DINNER
The Bethel Presbyterian Church in Riverview was again the scene of the Moncton Chapter’s Festive Season Dinner enjoyed each year by members and guests. On Friday evening, Nov. 21, a large number turned out for food, fun and fellowship - the hallmarks of this annual event.
Music throughout the evening was provided by Harbour Lights, the perfect backdrop for the gathering.
A brief business meeting was conducted before the delicious turkey dinner with all the fixings was served by the men of the church. How wonderful to tuck in to such a meal with no worries about gluten. Tea biscuits served with the meal were baked earlier in the day by Duinkerken Foods Inc. in Charlottetown, and whisked over the bridge to us. The dessert was a selection of cream pies made by the caterers with pie shells provided by El Peto. Needless to say, the bidding was fierce for the left-over biscuits and pies auctioned following the meal.
A young celiac boy, who had raised $380 for the recent chapter Walkathon was introduced and presented with a gift. Gifts provided by another sponsor of the evening, Jean Coutu, 404 St. George Street, were presented to the young people in attendance.
Then came the 50/50 draw and the awarding of door prizes, and the announcement that President Mike Murphy had garnered the most votes in the balloting earlier in the evening, and was the Chapter Member of the Year.
The evening ended with the popular Yankee Swap. After much frantic exchanging, everyone got to unwrap their final swap. The two mystery gifts were opened by the recipients to reveal a baby pacifier in one, and a $50 gift certificate from Jean Coutu in the other.
As one attendee said, this is the first Christmas party of the season for her, and it always puts her in the holiday mood.
Next event is in February 2009. Details will be on the website, communication email and newsletter in the very near future.
